Player News: Casey goes on loan

Wed, 17/01/2024 - 13:35

The club has agreed to Dundela’s request to take Casey Smyth on loan until the end of this season.

Casey  is a Northern Ireland U18 under national. He is under professional contract until the end of 2024/25 season and the manager has agreed that it would be beneficial for the player to get regular game time in the PlayrFit Championship before returning to fight for his place at Glentoran next season.

Casey just turned 18 a few days ago and has been with the club for five years, joining the Glentoran Academy as a 13-year-old from Ridgeway. He made his first team debut earlier this season when he started in our County Antrim Shield win over Crusaders at Seaview.

Warren Feeney: “Casey is a very exciting player and has a big future with Glentoran. This is a great loan move for him to a very good club. We have a great relationship with Dundela and I know the experience he gets there till the end of the season will really prepare him well for coming back to the Oval to fight for a regular first team place. It’s a great opportunity to play first team football in the Championship and hopefully it will have the same benefits as it did for Jonny Russell who had the second half of last season at the Duns. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on Casey and look forward to getting him back in pre-season.”

All at Glentoran wish Casey the very best of luck and we look forward to welcoming him back to the Bet McLean Oval for pre-season training in the summer.

Other Glentoran players currently out on loan are Jordan Jenkins (also Dundela), Kirk McLaughlin (Institute), Alex Henderson (Dungannon Swifts) and Sean Murray (Cork City).
