Moko honoured by Glentoran Family

Mon, 17/10/2022 - 20:46

When the club announced a Testimonial Season to celebrate and reward skipper Marcus Kane’s decade at the Bet McLean Oval, Marcus spoke passionately to the Belfast Telegraph of his love for Glentoran. If any evidence was needed that the love was reciprocated, it was made clear when hundreds of the extended Glentoran Family and friends gathered at Belfast's Europa Hotel on Saturday 15th October to share in a very special event – Moko’s Grand Testimonial Dinner.

It is well known that this recognition is only afforded to players who have achieved legendary status in the red, green, and black. Jason Hill was the last and Elliott Morris the one before. So on Saturday, Marcus joined a long, revered, list of iconic footballers who have pulled on the famous colours and done them proud.

Marcus said to www.glentoran.com of the event: “I would like to thank everyone for a great night on Saturday. Everyone made it so special and very humbling for so many to attend! Entertainment by Sunshine was fantastic, Logie and Al Foran were exceptional and the food was top notch.

I would also like to thank my committee for running such a tight ship and making the night run so smoothly, I would like to thank all my sponsors for the night as well also a Special mention to Curtis Harvey for the room decor which was stunning and to Corey, David and Caitlyn for their incredible work getting the room prepared."

To my family and friends they’ve been a rock for me all of the way through my life and have supported me so much with my career at Glentoran

I would also like to thank Ruth personally without her all of this doesn’t come together as easily as it does she has put in the hard hours for me and I’m so glad to have her in my corner.

On personal note for everyone to join in the wave of light for baby loss awareness week means a lot to me and Aimee and all the other families out there who have been affected by loss.”

Benefit Committee Chair Ruth McCreery said on the evening: “We celebrated ten years of dedication, commitment, and service to Glentoran Football Club, by our club captain, a gentleman, a hero of the Oval terraces and a leader who has steered this club through many a storm and on to victory down through the years, a player known affectionately to us all as “Moko.”

Ruth thanked the following for their contribution to making the evening such a success:

1: Glentoran Football Club

2: Our 2 main Testimonial corporate sponsors - Steve Foster and the team at Knowledge in Teamwear (KIT), and Paul McLean of Bet McLean.

3: Adrian Logan – a fantastic host
