Warrenpoint Town v Glentoran

Saturday 29 September 2018,  Kick Off 3pm

On Saturday we stay in County Down for our first visit of the season to the Q Radio Arena.

Although Warrenpoint are currently bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership they have recently rallied after a very difficult start to the season and late goals in their last two matches gained them a draw at Newry and an excellent home win over Cliftonville.

Our record at Warrenpoint has generally been very good but on our last visit, in April, we lost there for the first time through an injury time winner from Lorcan Forde. We won the other three meetings with Robbie McDaid in particular doing well with four goals in the fixtures.

Ronnie McFall: “We weren’t at our best last week against Institute but we dug in and got the three points, which was our objective. We were off the pace at times and we sat too deep, but our spirit, character and never-say-die attitude and mental strength was there for everyone to see. Like the Newry game the week before, this last season, we probably wouldn’t have won that game. We’ll get stronger as the season goes on. Certain players are still playing their way into the side...the likes of John Herron, and Joe Crowe will improve their sharpness and match fitness as the next few weeks progress and they’ll both be good assets for us. You can see the work rate of the players – the lads are playing with a high intensity. We try to press the opposition all over the park.  Also it’s a very positive thing that we are not now relying on Curtis to score the goals – they can come from anywhere on the park. We have others who can make a contribution at that end of the pitch, get us goals at crucial times We've played nine matches so far and nine players have scored from open play. I'm very pleased with that.

Warrenpoint are playing us after a couple of good results so we’ll not go there with any level of complacency based on our league positions. We’re on a good unbeaten run now and with three wins in a row we know how important it is to keep that momentum going. How we set up and approach this match will reflect that on Saturday.”

Warrenpoint Media Officer Jack Gilsenan: "After a difficult start to the season, playing last seasons top 6 within the first 7 games of the season, it was always going to be tough going. We were very disappointed in the manner in which we lost at home to Ballymena and Linfield however we showed the true Warrenpoint passion and belief and scored two stoppage time goals to beat Cliftonville to give us our first one of the season...much needed going into the first ever Danske Bank Premiership derby with Newry City. It was fair to say that we dominated large parts of this game but the ball just didn’t go into the back of the net, only for another stoppage time goal to give us a point.

We look forward to yet another game with Glentoran. True supporters of the game that show great passion for their team. We hope we can get another similar result as to the one when we last played Glentoran in April.”
