Match Preview: Moyola Park v Glentoran

Thu, 05/01/2023 - 22:53

Saturday 9th January 2023

Kick Off 3.00pm

On Saturday we look to end our poor run as we travel to Castledawson to play Moyola Park in the fifth round of the Samuel Gelston’s Whiskey Irish Cup

Moyola Park currently find themselves in mid table in the Premier Intermediate League, despite being tipped to be amongst the main promotion contenders before the campaign began. Having fallen to a surprise 2-0 Craig Memorial Cup Final defeat to NI Intermediate underdogs Maiden City FC on Boxing Day and then thrown away a 2-goal lead to draw 2-2 at struggling Armagh City in their last league fixture, it’s fair to say that the men from Castledawson will be determined to put in a much improved display against Premiership opposition.

The sides have met once before in a competitive fixture at the current Mill Meadow Stadium, Glentoran eventually emerging as 2-1 winners in the second round of the League Cup in August 2014. With Jordan Stewart having given the Glens a first half lead, Moyola equalised just after half time when striker Chris Dowie scored from the penalty spot. There was to be no shock in the end, though, as midfielder Stephen McAlorum grabbed his first Glentoran goal with a powerful shot from outside the box. Marcus Kane is the only Glentoran survivor of that tie.

Moyola will have a Glentoran connection in their side, with midfielder Samuel McIlveen having Captained our Seconds team to the Steel & Sons Cup Final in 2012. They also have former Coleraine forward Ian Parkhill in their ranks, scorer of 17 goals already this campaign.

This away game is PAY AT THE GATE. The address of the venue is.
