Match Preview: Glentoran Women v Cliftonville Ladies

Sun, 01/10/2023 - 21:47

Monday 2nd October

Ashfield Boys' School

KO: 7.45PM

After a 3-week international and cup break, Glentoran Women return to Sports Direct Premiership action tomorrow night at Ashfield. And what a night it should be, as the only two sides mathematically capable 0f winning the title meet.

Glentoran currently sit top of the table, nine points ahead of the Reds who have two games in hand.

In the previous Premiership meeting of the two sides this season, exactly four months ago at Solitude, Cliftonville rushed into a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes before an excellent second half fightback earned the Glens a point through Caragh Hamilton (now with Lewes Town) and Demi Vance. These were the only points the Glens have dropped all season to date.

The Glens go into tomorrow night on an eight-game winning run while the Reds’ only other dropped points came from a defeat to Crusaders Strikers in July. So two very well-matched sides will confront each other tomorrow evening.

Head Coach Kim Turner spoke to www.glentoran.com this evening: " I feel people are building this up as the pinnacle of our season - but it’s not - it’s just another game. Without winning every other game before this , no matter who the opposition is - we wouldn't be in this position. It’s just another league game and that’s how we see it as a group. We are prepared, we are fit and we are at the top of our game. We look forward to another competitive league game at Ashfield. As I’ve said before   we have 2 league games after this and we will continue to look at one game at a time"

Kick Off at Ashfield is at 7.45pm.
