Match Preview: Coleraine v Glentoran

Thu, 10/11/2022 - 22:53

Friday 11th November 2022

Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening the Glens seek to bounce back from Tuesday’s first league defeat with our second meeting of the season with Coleraine.

n the meetings between the sides at the Ballycastle Road Showgrounds last season, there was 1 win apiece; the Glens securing a 2-0 victory just 3 days before Christmas, thanks to goals in each half by the Donnelly brothers, and Coleraine winning 3-2 in the post-split game in April. In that game. following a tepid first half, substitute Matthew Shevlin netted twice and midfielder Aaron Jarvis once as Oran Kearney’s side ended what had been a wretched run of form. The Glens scorers on the day were Michael O’Connor and Rory Donnelly.

After an inconsistent start to the season, the Bannsiders currently find themselves in 6th place, 10 points behind new league leaders Larne. Their home form has typified this; recording 3 wins and 3 defeats in their first seven games, along with a 0-0 draw with Linfield which is (to date) their only drawn match of the entire campaign. They have enjoyed better luck in the League Cup, however, reaching the Semi Finals and a meeting with Cliftonville; the team who defeated them 4-3 in last season’s Final. Their game at the Oval in September was a tight contest, settled by a second half strike from Conor McMenamin.

Defender Rodney Brown and ex Glentoran frontman Andrew Mitchell have been long term absentees, with Brown returning for 45 minutes in the recent win over Carrick but not being part of the squad for Saturday’s defeat to Crusaders. Winger Conor McKendry hasn’t featured since being substituted in last month’s 4-2 home reverse to Cliftonville. Experienced midfielder Steven Lowry and striker James McLaughlin will be hoping to earn starts after coming on as second half substitutes against the Crues.
