Ballymena United v Glentoran

Saturday 16th September, 3pm.

This week we are away from home for the second consecutive Saturday as we travel to the Showgrounds to face Ballymena United.

We are two places ahead of United in the table after they won their last 2 games v Cliftonville and Warrenpoint after a four game start to the season without a win. We will be hoping to repeat our last visit to Warden Street when we ran out 4-2 winners due to a Curtis Allen hat trick and one from Stevie Gordon in a match that saw an exciting debut from Conall Delaney.

Over the summer, Ballymena brought in our former captain Stephen McAlorum (who has yet to make his competitive debut) and other former Glenman Stephen McCullough (Carrick Rangers), Michael Gault (Crusaders), Emmett Friars (Ards), Andrew Burns (Dungannon Swifts), Conor Brennan (Raith Rovers) and Daniel McIlhatton (Moyola Park). They also signed Ross Glendenning from Linfield on a permanent deal. Out have gone Darren Henderson and Kyle McVey (both Portadown), Denver Gage and Gavin Taggart (both Carrick Rangers), Stephen McBride and former captain Allan Jenkins (both retired).

Gary Haveron has no major injury concerns following last week’s Big Two match, while recent signing Eoghan McCawl had 90 minutes against Linfield Swifts on Wednesday evening. Encouraging news is that Willie Garrett is likely to have his first run out for the Under 20s over the next week or so following two years out and two serious operation following cruciate ligament sustained at Cliftonville in November 2015. Everyone at the club wishes Willie all the best for this stage of his comeback as a fit Willie Garrett will definitely be a very welcome option for the manager.
