Malachians 4-3 Glentoran Seconds

Sun, 24/09/2023 - 00:00

A very youthful Glentoran team (average age 17) with no senior experience, put up a good fight against a more experienced Malachians side at the Shore Road Playing Fields this afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to avoid an exit from the McComb’s Coaches Intermediate Cup.

The Wee Glens found themselves 3-1 behind at the break, the result of a Christopher Allan hat trick with a reply from James Douglas. That turned into 4-1 through Michael McAuley just after the break and despite a strong fightback and goals from second half subs Cal Weatherup and Owen O’Neill the hosts managed to hold out and progress into the second round.

Glentoran Seconds: Lorcan Donnelly, Barry McKervey, Ross Boyd , Odhran Bell (c), Dylan Hayes, Tony McElhone, Callan Farley,  James Douglas, Cole Killops, Killian McCandless, Cillian McCann

Subs: Caolan Hardy (for McCann 70), Noah Mitchell (for McCandless 50), Marcus Fitzsimons (for McKervey 80), Owen O’Neill (for Hayes 50), Cal Weatherup (for Killops 80)
