Glentoran Women 5-0 Comber Rec Ladies

Mon, 29/04/2019 - 22:26

Glentoran Women swept to a convincing five-goal victory over Comber Rec. Ladies in the League Cup quarter-finals.

It took the Glens 32 minutes to open the scoring with Nadene Caldwell getting on the end of a Demi Vance corner following a sustained period of pressure.

Five minutes before the break, Vance was the provider again with another inch-perfect corner and this time it was Sarah Gamble who rose the highest to get her head to it and double the Glens lead.

Moments before the break, Ashleigh McKinnon had a chance to halve the deficit for Comber but her effort went wide of goal.

The Glens made it 3-0 in the 55th minute - good individual play down the left side from Sam Kelly with a delivery ending in a goalmouth scramble with Rachel Rogan tucking the ball in.

With 13 minutes remaining Rogan got her second of the night - a deep cross from Kelly saw Olivia Marshall (pictured above) have a blocked shot only for Rogan to nip in and net the rebound.

There was still time for 16-year-old Marshall to grab her first senior goal, firing home at the back post following a free-kick.

Glentoran will meet either Derry City or Crusaders Strikers in the semi-final.
