Glentoran v Cliftonville

Sat, 22/03/2014 - 09:29

The Glens face the Reds at the Oval this afternoon with both teams needing a win. Cliftonville will be hoping that Linfield drop points at Coleraine and should they overcome Glentoran then they could return to the top of the Danske Bank Premiership. The Glens have won their last two league games 3-nil as they confirmed their place in the top 6. Fourth, or even third, place is still achievable and Eddie Patterson's team will be going all out to try and get that.

The teams have met 3 times already this season. Cliftonville won the first meeting in the Danske Bank Premiership at Solitude in September (4-1) and 10 days later knocked the Glens out of the Co Antrim Shield at the Oval (3-0). Glentoran then went on an unbeaten run in October, a run which included a 1-1 draw with Cliftonville at the Oval. The home fans felt that the Glens should have taken all 3 points that day but for some bizarre refereeing from Mervyn Smyth!

Glentoran go into today's game without long term absentees, David Howland and Marcus Kane. David Scullion picked up a thigh injury against Shamrock Rovers and is likely to be out for another week or two whilst Jason Hill is also a doubt. Calum Birney did make a welcome return against Rovers though and should be in the squad for today's game.

Glentoran FC would request that supporters from both side show respect for each other and behave in an appropriate manner. all supporters should follow the advice and direction of the Stewards and Safety Personnel in and around the stadium. We remind all fans that CCTV will be in operation throughout the game.
