Glentoran v Ballymena United

Fri, 04/09/2015 - 18:43

It’s match day 6 in the 2015-16 Danske Bank Premiership with Glentoran hosting Ballymena United at the Oval.

The Sky Blues come into the game occupying bottom spot in the table having picked up just 1 point in their league campaign to date. That came courtesy of a 1-all draw with Carrick Rangers. Glentoran, having lost on the opening day of the season at Coleraine, have 6 points from beating Warrenpoint Town and recording draws against Crusaders, Carrick Rangers and Glenavon.

Eddie Patterson’s squad should be at full strength with the exception of Jay Magee who is suspended following his red card last Tuesday evening. New signing, Ciaran Cadwell is in line to possibly make his debut.

Last season the Glens and Ballymena United met 3 times in the league with Glentoran winning 2 of those and drawing the other. In the first of those fixtures, played at the Ballymena Showgrounds in mid September, the Glens went in front early on through a Fra McCaffrey penalty. Jordan Stewart also netted for the Glens but the home side grabbed an equaliser in the final minute of stoppage time.

On 1st November the two teams met at the Oval. 4 goals in 24 second half minutes (O’Hanlon, Allen & Stewart (2)) gave Glentoran the 3 points. In February this year Glentoran again came out on top. This game, again played at the Showgrounds, saw the Glens record a 3-1 win with goals from Gordon, Scullion and Allen.
