Glentoran Seconds 2–1 Carrick Rangers Reserves

Mon, 09/10/2023 - 22:14

A last-gasp goal from Cal Weatherup gave the Wee Glens all three points tonight in a hard-fought encounter at Ashfield.

Jack Watson scored a good goal to cancel out a Carrick opener early in the second half then with twenty seconds left young Weatherup gave this very young Glens team a deserved win against a strong Rangers side. Both Glentoran scorers tonight are 15-year-olds.

The first half was a battle from start to finish. The game was played at a high tempo with Carrick battling for every ball. Neither team created any real clear cut chances.

Carrick broke the dead lock after they scored from a corner with a front post header on the 51st minute. Equaliser came ten mins later when James Douglas played a lovely through ball to Jack Watson who finished calmly past the keeper.

The winner came in the last minute when substitute Cal Weatherup scored from inside the box. He shielded the ball inside the box and turned on to his left foot and finished low into the bottom corner.
