Glentoran Celebrates 130th Birthday

Fri, 12/10/2012 - 16:16

Tomorrow is a momentous day in the history of Glentoran FC.

This week commemorates Glentoran Football Club's 130th birthday and to mark the occasion, tomorrow's match at The Oval against Portadown will feature a special presentation from 2.40pm of many of our past greats.

Past Managers together with Ronnie McFall and Eddie Patterson will be presented before the match followed by a roll call of over 20 Glentoran legends to be paraded in front of our fans.  On top of this, before kick off there will be a one minute applause as a mark of respect to all those players, managers and representatives of the club who are no longer with us whom played such a vital role in creating the history of our great Club.

We would be very grateful if all fans could show up as early as possible in order to be apart of this presentation of our club's history. The event will begin at 2.40pm and it would be fantastic to see the majority of fans already in place to give our club legends the reception they deserve.

In attendance will be....

Billy McCullough, Trevor Thompson, George Neill, Alan Paterson, John Devine, Billy McKeag, Jim Cleary, Rab McCreery, Terry Moore, Harry Creighton, Justin McBride, Bertie Wright, Pete Batey, Gary Macartney, Andy Mathieson, Barney Bowers, Johnny Jamison, Johnny Jameson, Gary Blackledge, Chris Walker, Ron Manley and Jason Hill.

These Glentoran legends are excited about playing a role in marking this milestone in the clubs history. Further celebratory events are being planned between now and the end of the season including a supporters poll to identify their Top 10 players over the 130 years.
