Congratulations Northern Ireland!

Wed, 14/04/2021 - 14:01

A late goal from Glentoran midfielder Nadene Caldwell at Seaview last night, helped Northern Ireland make history in qualifying for the finals of the Euro 2022 in England. This is Northern Ireland’s first ever qualification for the finals.

Dino’s late clincher followed a second half goal from captain Marissa Callaghan gave Kenny Shiels' side a 2-0 win on the night and a 4-1 victory on aggregate in the two-legged play-off.

There were no fewer than six Glentoran players in last night’s squad. Goalkeeper Jackie Burns was in the starting line-up while Caldwell (having started the first leg on Saturday) and Samantha Kelly came on as substitutes. Danielle Maxwell, Kerry Beattie and Emma McMaster were also in the squad in both legs. Not forgetting the injured Lauren Wade and our former midfielder Demi Vance (now with Rangers) who was also injured for these ties.

Congratulations to the entire squad, to Kenny Shiels and his management team, and in particular to the six members of Billy Clarke’s league champion squad. You’ve all made Glentoran and Northern Ireland very proud,
