Boxing Update

Fri, 09/05/2014 - 20:49

An update on the Boxing event to be held on Thursday 15th May.

As it happens organisation of the event has proved quite a challenging exercise. From an initial interest before Christmas of 14 first team players, the list has shortened considerably as one by one, for a variety of reasons, a number of players have withdrawn from the event. We have also just this week had the withdrawal of Terence Brannigan.

Despite all the difficulties however, a couple of major sponsors have been secured, and "Judgement Day at Moneyreagh" goes ahead as planned! Players and fans have been training hard at Monkstown Boxing Club this last 6 weeks, and we can now confirm a bill of 9 bouts on the evening.

We will have 3 exhibition fights from Monkstown Boxing Club, 5 fights between Glentoran players and Glentoran fans (listed below), and one main event, Quarry GSC's Johnny Poots v Raven GSC's Stephen Beattie!

Monkstown Boxing Club x 3

Kyle Mackie v Dickson Chisanga

Tim McCann v Mo Kitchen

Jay Magee v Jonny Addis

Graham Childs v Stevie Gordon

Johnny Poots v Steven Beattie

TBA v TBA

As you know the event is being run to raise funds to supplement Eddie Patterson's player budget next season, even more important now, given that due to the financial situation at the Oval, his budget has been cut again for 2014/15.

The lads from the Seconds, Dickson Chisanga & Kyle Mackie, are fighting on behalf of the entire Seconds team, boxing to raise sponsorship money towards costly team kit and expenses next season.

In addition to our associated charity on the night, locally based SOS - Survivors of Suicide, we also have 4 other charities with supporters fighting to raise money on their behalf:

* Children's Arthritis charity - JOINTZ
* CHEST HEART & STROKE
* Children's Cancer charity - BANDANAS FOR THE BRAVE
* Children's Autism charity - HELPING HANDS

It's not all about boxing either, we'll have entertainment throughout the night, including a few sessions from local band the "Raven Micks".

But for all the effort above, it doesn't work without a decent audience. We need bodies in the hall to cheer on the lads and support them for their efforts. We would appeal to each of you to please make a special effort, and consider giving this unique event your support, remember folks, ALL the proceeds will go to the Glens and to charity, and we promise you'll have a good time as well!

Tickets for the night cost £15, and tables of 10 can be reserved for £150.

They can be purchased online at the GCT website HERE (no online fees, you order your tickets and collect at the door)

Email us at info@gctni.com

Order them from any GCT board member

Or simply lift the phone and call us on 07725211668

And if for whatever reason you cant make it, what about donating something for the auction or ballot? We already have a signed pair of Boxing Gloves from Carl Frampton, Season Tickets from the Glens and a gift from La Mon Hotel, but could really do with much more. If you can think of anyone who might be able to help please have a word or give them a call, ALL the auction money will go to charity, the ballot receipts to Eddie Patterson's kitty.

There's a few pics below of the lads training hard below, courtesy of Glenman Davy Brownlee.

So there you have it folks, this has all the makings of a great night out, the competition between some of the lads is fierce, and I can assure you entertainment value will be extremely high. It would be great if we had a decent crowd come along and support the lads, so please give it some thought and get yourself up to La Mon Hotel next Thursday night for the craic!

Many thanks once again for your support. Le jeu avant tout
