Another fantastic day for the Glentoran Academy

Mon, 07/05/2018 - 22:02

Another fantastic day for the Glentoran Academy with the Glentoran U14's romping to a NIBFA Cup win.

The U14's had already been crowned National League champions and All-Ireland champions before adding the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup to their collection, courtesy of a 7-nil final win over arch rivals Linfield.

The U14's remain undefeated this season and next weekend will be seeking to land back to back trebles when they play in the League Cup final - again against Linfield.

Charlie Lindsay opened the scoring for the U14's today and went on to win the 'man of the match' award; his third in a row in the show piece final! Charlie Lindsay grabbed a hattrick in the game with goal machine, Callum Marshall netting the other 4!

That was the boys' third success in a row having defeated Portadown and Glenavon in the previous two years.

Our 2007 team became the latest Glentoran side to win silverware, defeating Rosario in the U11 Plate final. Kenzie Beattie scored both goals as the game ended in a 2-2 draw before the Glens won the penalty shoot-out.

2006 team before their Cup Final

Our 2006 side, defending champions, were desperately unlucky to lose their NIBFA Cup Final, after going through the entire season unbeaten!!  The guys reached the final beating strongly fancied Dungannon, Cliftonville and then Linfield. The boys have also made it to the League Cup Final this Saturday and will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat yesterday losing narrowly 2-1 in the final minutes of the match against Lurgan Town. Congratulations to Lurgan on their win and well done to Marty Murphys Glentoran 06s on a very successful season. Good luck in your final on Saturday !

All 3 teams are in League Cup final action this cooming weekend.

The 2007 side face Linfield in the SBYL League Cup and our U12's play Maiden City in the National League Cup final.

Our U14's face the same Linfield side they defeated 7-nil today.

Also competing next weekend are our U13's (Plate final) and our 18's, recently crowned league champions, also face Linfield in their League Cup final.

Congratulations to all the young players and coaches of the Glentoran Academy who continue to do themselves and the club proud.
