Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that our captain, Marcus Kane has signed an extension to his current contract. That means Marcus is now committed to Glentoran until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Marcus told www.glentoran.com: “I’m absolutely buzzing to get this deal over the line. Mick and Windy have been very keen to get me tied down long term and I’ve been looking to extend my contract so it was a no brainer for me. Glentoran is where I want to be, and I’ve always had great support from the fans since my move in 2012. I’m also looking forward to being a part of all the changes at the Oval, brought to the club following the new investment. We’ve got a lot of new faces here now, so it is very competitive with at least two players per position. We are hoping to put our stamp on the league straight away with a good performance on Friday night against a good Glenavon side.”

Head Coach Mick McDermott said: “Paul and I are delighted that Moko has committed himself to the club. Since we arrived here, he has enthusiastically bought into everything we’ve tried to do and has given strong leadership to his teammates. He’s also a top player and while we’ve added to the squad this season it’s also important to make sure the stronger players in the existing squad are given every opportunity this season. To that end we’ve signed new contracts with John Herron, Darren Murray and now our captain this summer. Moko is also very enthusiastic about the prospect of moving more fulltime and he’s earned that opportunity

Marcus, who is 27, joined Glentoran from Linfield in July 2012. Since then he has made 251 appearances (more than any other current outfield player), scoring 26 goals. He played in our Irish Cup Final wins in both 2013 and 2015. This new contract will ensure his stay at the Oval is at least a decade and takes him to a testimonial year in 2022.
