Glentoran 1–2 Linfield

Wed, 08/11/2023 - 01:45

The game was ultimately settled by Glentoran indecision in both boxes, despite a late rally after falling two goals behind. A minute’s silence was also observed before kick-off to remember all those who gave their lives in both world wars and later conflicts. The chairmen of both clubs laid poppy wreaths to mark the occasion.

Johnny Russell commits to Glentoran.

Tue, 07/11/2023 - 00:44

Glentoran FC is delighted to announce that our young full back Johnny Russell has signed his first full time professional contract with the club. This will keep Johnny at the Bet McLean Oval until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Johnny (19) has been with the club since joining as a 10-year-old, so is currently in his ninth season at Glentoran. It’s a tremendous achievement for any young player to make it all the way through from 10 to the first team so Johnny has showed great determination and talent to now make it to full time football.

Glentoran Seconds 0-0 Crusaders Reserves

Mon, 06/11/2023 - 23:00

With a number of regulars called up to the first team squad this week, it was a very young squad that fought out a solid goalless draw with Crusaders tonight, at Ashfield in the NIFL U20 Premiership.

It was great to see the sorely missed Seanan Clucas commence his return to action in this game. Seanan played for over an hour in his first match since January due to a groin injury. This will be good news for the senior management and the broad Glentoran support.

Tomorrow night we face our old rivals Linfield in the second round of the Bet McLean Cup.

Tomorrow's Gazette

Mon, 06/11/2023 - 20:38

In Tuesday night’s Glentoran Gazette Warren Feeney tells how he brought the squad in on Sunday to discuss how they could bounce back from a result which left him frustrated. He blamed a loss of concentration for Carrick’s goals but reiterated his message that we need to finish off teams after taking the lead in games. He also looks ahead to tonight’s game while our writers detail Linfield’s flying start to the season.

Century for Aaron

Mon, 06/11/2023 - 11:34

One positive in Saturday’s game against Carrick is that Aaron McCarey made his  100th appearance for  Glentoran in the fixture.

Aaron was signed by Mick McDermott from Cliftonville in the 2021 summer transfer window and has been a fixture in the first team ever since. So far this season Aaron has kept six clean sheets in the Sports Direct Premiership, joint best of any keeper in the division.

Congratulations Aaron!

Glentoran welcomes 250 Club Legends

Sun, 05/11/2023 - 20:33

The high spot of an otherwise disappointing day at the Bet McLean Oval yesterday was the presence of 20 of Glentoran’s greatest ever footballers at the match. They were there as members of the Glentoran 250 Club – players who made over 250 appearances for Glentoran – who were there to receive new 250 Club membership cards, specially designed by Clifford Logan. These men have over 100 League and Irish Cup winner’s medals between them.
