Match Preview: Cliftonville v Glentoran

Fri, 16/10/2020 - 00:51

Saturday 17th October 2020, Kick Off 3.00pm

On Saturday we finally commence the Danske Bank Premiership season in the same way we ended the last one, with a match against Cliftonville, this time at Solitude.

No one will need reminding of the last time we played the Reds, in the never to be forgotten Sadler’s Peaky Blinder Irish Cup semi-final win in July.

Glentoran 0-0 Ards (5-4 on pens)

Tue, 13/10/2020 - 23:21

Glentoran edged into the semi-finals of the Toals Co Antrim Shield following a penalty shoot-out win at the Oval.

They will be joined in the draw by holders Cliftonville, Linfield and Larne.

Glentoran controlled the game for virtually all of the 90 minutes but failed to find the breakthrough goal.

Match Preview: Glentoran v Ards

Tue, 13/10/2020 - 00:29

Tuesday 13th October 2020, Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening we continue in our campaign to win the Toals County Antrim Shield for the first time since 2010 with a second consecutive visit from a North Down team based at Clandeboye Park. This time it’s Ards in the second round.

Last time we played Ards in the County Antrim Shield was twenty years ago at the Oval in the first round. That night the Glens ran out as comfortable 3-0 winners with goals from Darren Lockhart, Gary Smyth and Justin McBride.

Glentoran 2-0 Bangor

Sat, 10/10/2020 - 21:32

Glentoran will face Ards in the next round of the Toals Co Antrim Shield following a comfortable 2-nil home victory over Bangor.

The Glens were still without Robbie McDaid and Paddy McClean through injury.

We also had Dayle Cooling, Caolan Marron, Bobby Burns and Paul O'Neill away on international duty but manager Mick McDermott was still able to field a very strong line up.

Paul is Ulster's Number one

Sat, 10/10/2020 - 10:40

It’s a weekend to remember for our young striker Paul O’Neill. Last night he scored both Northern Ireland’s goals in their 2-3 Under 21 defeat to Finland at Ballymena Showgrounds. This morning the Northern Ireland Football Writers announced Paul as its NI Football Awards Dream Spanish Homes Young Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
