3 Glentoran Legends honoured

Mon, 29/04/2024 - 11:15

On Saturday at half time the club was very pleased to welcome onto the pitch 3 true and much loved legends of Glentoran who were presented with their 250 Club membership cards from club Chairman Colin Jess.

Michael Halliday

Michael played 468 times for the Glens and scored 141 goals, including the distinction of scoring the winner in 2 separate Irish Cup Finals. In 11 seasons at the Oval Michael won 15 winners medals including 3 league titles and  2 Irish Cups. He is still playing for Bangor in the championship team at the age of 44.

Michael is photographed here with his son Donovan.

Gary Macartney

One of the Greatest centre forwards in Glentoran history and with 192 goals the fourth highest goalscorer in our 142 years. The great G-Force was a star in our 1988 Double winning team and winner of 14 winners medals in just 8 seasons including 2 league titles and  3 Irish Cups. Michael Halliday told Donovan on the day that Gary was who he wanted to be as a young Glenman.

Elliott Morris

The Bet McLean Oval wouldn’t be the same place without the longest serving Glentoran first teamer of all time with 19 seasons’ first team service and now 3 more so far on the first team coaching staff. Our second highest appearance maker of all time with 743 appearances and a man whose loyalty to this club in times of both triumph and serious adversity should set an example to all players in the modern game anywhere in the world. Elliott was the winner of 3 league titles and 4 Irish Cups among his 14 trophies at Glentoran.

3 truly great Glentoran players and great men.
