Glentoran 6-0 Carrick Rangers

Sat, 12/12/2020 - 19:09

A Robbie McDaid hattrick, a goal apiece from the Donnelly brothers and a peach from Hrvoje Plum gave Glentoran an emphatic win in today's Danske Bank Premiership game at the Oval.

Dayle Coleing returned in goal for this one but the main talking point pre-match was the welcome return to the starting line up of Hrvoje Plum.

There’s a double issue of the Glentoran Gazette covering our games against Carrick Rangers tomorrow and Warrenpoint Town on Tuesday.  Eddy Patrick goes Behind The Scenes to get the latest from groundsman William Kirkwood, Henry Muldrew ponders the changes in the game over the years and John Grayden’s Big Interview is with a trailblazing Glentoran midfielder of the 1990s.  History man Roy Downes looks back more than half a century to a game that he attended but didn’t actually see and Roy also has a part to play in Sam Robinson’s latest piece.  In the course of researching his latest book “O

Two well taken goals - an early strike from Samantha Kelly and a spectacular lob from Sarah Connolly - were enough to give Glentoran Women their first Danske Bank Premiership title in six years in a well deserved 2-0 win over Crusaders Strikers at Seaview this evening. Glentoran remain Northern Ireland's most successful club in Women's football as this was the Glens' record eighth championship win since the inception of the league.

It has been confirmed by the Executive that supporters will be allowed into Danske Bank Premiership matches effective this weekend, with an upper limit of 500 permitted. This is a welcome relaxation of previous restrictions, but it imposes clear restrictions on clubs and supporters that must be strictly observed when inside stadia.

For the next three home games the following season ticket groups will be permitted entry:

Saturday 12th December v Carrick Rangers: Groups A and C.

Supporting Caragh

Tue, 08/12/2020 - 21:21

Earlier this year, I began to try and tell the story of Glentoran Football Club’s epic adventure across Europe in 1914, which culminated in the winning of the Vienna Cup. The story would in turn become a book called One Saturday before the War, which I launched last Thursday, albeit in the strangest of times and probably not in the most ideal of conditions.

Glens Women up for the title

Mon, 07/12/2020 - 23:55

On Wednesday evening Glentoran Women have the opportunity to clinch the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership title when they face Crusaders Strikers at Seaview.

The Glens are currently two points ahead of Linfield Ladies with a game in hand. If two teams finish on the same points at the end of the season, the title is awarded based on head-to-head results. As Glentoran have won both “Big Two” clashes this season, then a point on Wednesday or next week’s final game (v Sion Swifts at home) will be enough to bring the trophy to the Oval. So, everything to play for on Wednesday night.
