Another Milestone for Marcus

Sat, 30/01/2021 - 18:28

Glens captain Marcus Kane made his 300th appearance for Glentoran in our Danske Bank Premiership draw at Inver Park last night. To mark the milestone the club Chairman, Stephen Henderson presented him with a souvenir commemorative first team shirt with the legend Kane 300 on the back.

Marcus, who is 29, joined Glentoran from Linfield in July 2012 after a season on loan at Carrick Rangers. He made his debut in a 3-1 home win over Donegal Celtic on 11th August 2012, scoring his first goal in an away League Cup win over Institute two months later.

Report by Andrew Morrison

A momentous night at Inver park saw Glentoran draw with Larne for the third time this season. The match also saw club Captain Marcus Kane make his 300th appearance with Patrick McClean making his 50th since signing from Derry City in August 2019.

There was a worrying start for the Glens as striker Robbie McDaid went down inside five minutes holding his shoulder after an awkward fall. After receiving treatment, ` he was able to continue.

The Oval Sessions: Brian Houston

Thu, 28/01/2021 - 11:37

The events of the past twelve months have had a negative impact on so many people and business at all ends and in all aspects of society. Included in their number are musicians and bands who – as effectively self-employed - rely for their living on gigging regularly across the province and beyond. Live music stopped in Northern Ireland in March 2020, so that’s eleven full months when these artists have been unable to face an audience.

Glentoran 2 - 0 Carrick Rangers

Match Report by Andrew Morrison

The first game back since the halt in the season saw goals from Jay Donnelly and Robbie McDaid secure the three points against a Carrick side filled with former Glens players.

With the opening minutes seeing Glentoran dictate possession, the first reasonable attack came courtesy of the home side on five minutes. A corner from Hrvoje Plum saw Patrick McClean meet the ball at the penalty spot, however his header went just wide of the post.

Match Preview: Glentoran v Carrick Rangers

Tue, 26/01/2021 - 01:06

Tuesday 26th January 2021, Kick Off 7.45pm

After the disappointment of Saturday’s postponement at Mourneview Park, this evening we make another effort to restart our season when Carrick Rangers visit the Oval for the second time of the season. This is one of the vagaries of this season’s fixture setting with a number of repeat fixtures before return fixtures were planned.

This means that Cameron is now available for selection and will join the rest of the first team squad at Mourneview Park this afternoon.

Obituary: Mick Millington

We would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of former Glentoran defender Mick Millington who passed away recently, aged 80.

Mick is best remembered as a league winner with Dundalk in the 1960s and as one of Dundalk’s greatest ever players. He spent the 1970-71 season with Glentoran, having joined along with his Dundalk teammate Kevin Murray, before returning south to end his career with St Patrick’s Athletic.

Obituary: Tommy Gilmore

Fri, 15/01/2021 - 13:42

We learned recently of the sad news that lifelong Glenman, Tommy Gilmore passed away in Canada on the 30th December. Tommy was born in Thistle Street, off the Newtownards Road and like so many from the area, worked in the Shipyard as a steel worker. The Glens were his passion however and remained so even after he emigrated to Canada in 1978.

A keen footballer, bandsman and Orangeman, he was also a member of the Westbourne Glentoran Supporters Club for many years.
