Glens food contribution to East Belfast Families

Wed, 10/02/2021 - 18:48

Curtis Harvey and Sarah Killops prepare for distribution

This year’s Glentoran Christmas Appeal was so successful, due to the generosity of the Glentoran Family, that it was decided to utilise some of the money to help those in our East Belfast community most disadvantaged by the current COVID-19 lockdown.

So today our Glentoran Milk Bar volunteers, led by Jodie Killops, delivered three course meals to 103 local families who are finding it difficult in the current very trying conditions.

Match Preview: Glentoran v Ballymena United

Mon, 08/02/2021 - 23:27

Tuesday 9th February 2021, Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow night we look to build on the momentum of Saturday’s excellent win over Cliftonville when Ballymena United make their first visit to the Oval of 2020-21. United are currently in fifth place, two points ahead of us. So this one is a real six pointer for both clubs.

Ballymena were beaten 3-1 and 2-0 on their visits last season. They do, however, boast a respectable record at the Oval over the last decade or so and had record 4 wins and a draw from 6 prior to the 19/20 season.

Glentoran 1-0 Cliftonville

Sat, 06/02/2021 - 19:08

For the third time this season a game between the Glens and the Reds was decided by a late goal and what a strike it was, Jamie McDonagh's 25-yard strike finding the top corner of the Sydenham End net. To use an old football cliche, 'it was a goal worthy of winning any game'!

Match Preview: Glentoran v Cliftonville

Fri, 05/02/2021 - 13:17

Saturday 6th February 2021, Kick Off 3.00pm

On Saturday we host Cliftonville for our third meeting so far this short season. The previous two meetings have yielded a win each, both with the last gasp winners that have become such a staple of matches between the two teams in recent years.

After an inconsistent run of results in November and December, Cliftonville have been in better form recently - unbeaten in the 5 games played so far in 2021.

Two In A Row for Cricky

Thu, 04/02/2021 - 15:03

We are delighted to announce that the dor the second consecutive month, the winner of the supporters’ vote as January Glentoran Player of the Month is Cricky Gallagher.

This is Cricky's fifth montly award in just over two years with the club. No mean feat for a 21-year old midfielder often charged with the less glamorous taks on the pitch. He has had more game time than any other Glentoran player so far this season, playing in nineteen of our twenty matches and starting eighteen.

Crusaders 1-0 Glentoran

Tue, 02/02/2021 - 22:51

Glentoran suffered another disappointing defeat at Seaview in the Danske Bank Premiership, going down to a goal from Jordan Owens.

As in last Friday night's game at Larne, the goal came from a corner however on this occasion the Glens were unable to find a way back into the match.

Tuesday 2nd February 2021, Kick off 7.45pm

Again the strange nature of this year’s fixture setting confront us in the most tangible manner tomorrow night when Glentoran return to Seaview for the second time in 2 months seeking a first league win at Seaview since August 2011. Our December encounter ended in a frustrating 2-0 defeat after an evenly contested game - when an 82nd minute Jordan Forsythe penalty and a goal from winger Ross Clarke two  minutes later sealed the points for Stephen Baxter's side.

Condolences

Mon, 01/02/2021 - 13:52

We learned recently of the sad news that a life long Glenman, Albert Eugene Courtney passed away in England on the 25th of January 2021.

The Glens were Eugene's passion from a very young age and even when he moved to England he still carried the Glens in his heart.

Eugene will be fondly remembered by his family and friends in Belfast and Bangor.

On behalf of everyone at Glentoran FC, we offer our sincere condolences to Eugene's family and friends at this sad time.

Return of the Mac

Sun, 31/01/2021 - 22:06

Glentoran Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Conor McMenamin from Cliftonville.

Conor (25) had an earlier spell with the club in the 2015-16 season, before joining Warrenpoint Town and subsequently Cliftonville. He moved from his original position of centre forward to now play as a left sided forward and has enjoyed great success with the Reds, including twice winning the Northern Ireland Player of the Month Award while at Solitude.

Moving in the other direction is Paul O’Neill.
