Glentoran v Donegal Celtic- Preview

Fri, 26/10/2012 - 17:11

Glentoran returned to winning ways last week against Glenavon to record our first league win in 4 matches. Despite the dip in form, we are still in the hunt at the top, only 6 points behind leaders Cliftonville in 5th place. The team news for tomorrow's match sees Elliot Morris return from suspension and is expected to replace Aaron Hogg in goal. Colin Nixon remains out after surgery last week and Andy Waterworth is doubtful to be fit in time for the game.

Supporter information for Saturday's fixture

Wed, 24/10/2012 - 17:34

Donegal Celtic have informed us that there have been some alterations to the spectator areas of their ground. In essence Glentoran supporters will enter the ground at the turnstiles closest to the clubhouse and will be accommodated on the clubhouse side of the ground (the opposite side to where we had been accommodated at recent fixtures). There will be bar facilities available at halftime. Supporters should follow directions of stewards and allow a little extra time for accessing the ground.

Happy Birthday Bertie

Mon, 22/10/2012 - 22:42

Probably Glentoran's oldest surviving player, Bertie Wright today celebrated his 93rd birthday. Bertie, who lives in Laurelvale near Portadown, joined the Glens in the 1941-42 season and who, until his departure at the end of 1948-49, played 214 games for the club. Although he filled what would have been considered a defensive position, Bertie scored 47 goals, twice finishing as the club’s second highest scorer (seasons 42-43 and 44-45 both times with 13 goals). Wright won two trophies with the Glens, the Co Antrim Shield and the All-Ireland Cup, both in the 1943-44 season.

Glentoran 2-1 Glenavon

Sat, 20/10/2012 - 17:20

Glentoran got back to winning ways at the Oval this afternoon despite Eddie Patterson being forced to field an under strength side due to injury and suspension.  Aaron Hogg took the goalkeeper’s jersey after Elliott Morris’s red card last week while Mark Clarke moved to centre back, replacing the injured Colin Nixon, to partner Jimmy Callacher who was making his 100th appearance for the club.  On the plus side Stephen Carson returned to the starting line up after a spell out with injury.
