Glens join #MoreThanFootball campaign

Glentoran Football Club is delighted to have been invited to join the #MoreThanFootball campaign, in association with the European Football for Development Network (EFDN) from now until its conclusion on 18th April.

We have enthusiastically joined #MoreThanFootball as Glentoran a club that represents so much more than simply football within East Belfast and far beyond. Glentoran is a family and a community, as we have demonstrated strongly throughout the past 12 turbulent and difficult months.

This craziest of seasons throws up another of its peculiarities tomorrow evening when – having played Glenavon twice in the past week – we travel to Warrenpoint for the second time in ten days. This time the fixture list is not to blame as the past two Tuesdays have been the result of weather postponements in January and February.

First professional contract for Aaron

The club is delighted to formally announce that one of our top young prospects – Aaron Wightman – has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Midfielder Aaron – who has just turned seventeen and lives in Newtownards – has been with the club since he was six years old. He has been a member of our all-conquering Year 2004 “Dream Team.

Tomorrow, we have an immediate opportunity to bounce back after Tuesday night’s unexpected defeat at Mourneview, when Glenavon travel to the Oval for the second time this season.

Glenavon had enjoyed a good recent record at the Oval prior to last season, recording 3 wins and 2 draws since we had beaten them 2-0 in November 2015 - Jonathan Smith and Steven Gordon the scorers on that occasion.

NIFL Womens Premiership Fixtures Announced

NIFL has announced the fixtures and dates for the 2021 Danske Bank NIFL Womens Premiership season.

The new season will run from April-October 2021 with all teams involved playing each other 4 times. Cup fixtures will be added throughout the season.

Reigning Champions Glentoran Women - current holders of all four senior trophies in Northern Ireland - will commence the defence of their title with a home match with Crusaders on April 28th.

The countdown is finally on, 6 weeks and counting. #whateverittakes.

Glens Academy link with Robbie Fowler

Glentoran’s Youth Football Academy, for 16-19 year olds is delighted to announce a major new development:

“Paul Millar and I are thrilled to announce that Glentoran’s Youth Football Academy, for 16-19 year olds, at our training campus in Ashfield Boys’ High School, will be extending to include a partnership with Robbie Fowler’s Football Academy (Fowler Education Football Academy - FEFA) this coming August (2021).
