Team Talks: Andrew Mitchell

Mon, 20/04/2020 - 23:04

With everyone away from the Oval for an undetermined period, we have decided to bring Glentoran supporters some of the most compelling content from the multi award winning Glentoran Gazette. We hope you will enjoy the stories and player interviews we bring and that it will encourage you to buy a Gazette at our home matches when football returns. Many thanks to the Glentoran Supporters Committee (1923) for use of this material. The "Team Talks" series will consist of interviews with current squad members with John Grayden this season.

Morgan Day Fifteen Years on

Sun, 19/04/2020 - 19:00

This week marks the fifteenth anniversary of Morgan Day at the Oval.

To commemorate the occasion, and given it will be yet another Saturday without football, we will be running a full livestream of the match (UTV coverage) at 3pm on Saturday 25 April at 3pm.

In our week long build up to the screening, our official social media outlets will have:

"Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner"

...that I love London so.  Like Bud Flanagan, who sang the famous, morale boosting, wartime song, don’t you just love London town – the sights, the sounds, the night life, not to mention the birth place of Ian and Glen.  But who are Ian and Glen, I hear you ask?

Glens sing Van for the NHS

Fri, 10/04/2020 - 19:32

With everyone in lockdown and missing our Glentoran fix, the Glentoran  first team squad and management has offered up this version of “Days Like This”, written by East Belfast’s most famous son and Glenman, Van Morrison, as their tribute to the tireless and selfless workers of the NHS. Listen and enjoy it but you might want to give Van’s original a listen once you’ve done so.

Glens 2011 players donate to NHS

Fri, 10/04/2020 - 14:21

This weekend the Glentoran Academy 2011 team were due to travel to Brussells to compete in the European Cup. Ahead of their trip they had undertaken a number of fundraising activities to help them finance their journey. With the tournament cancelled, they kindly donated £300 to the doctors and nurses of the NHS based at the Ulster and City Hospitals. This was to thank our NHS workers for their time and sacrifices in fighting Covid-19 and saving so many lives here in Northern Ireland. The boys' message said "We love you all and thank you so much.

Another major record for Elliott

Mon, 06/04/2020 - 20:30

At our recent (well, it doesn’t seem that recent) home match with Cliftonville, Glens goalkeeper Elliott Morris passed a remarkable milestone with the club when he became the longest serving first team player in the club’s history. On that date, Elliott had been a first team player for 17 years, 7 months and 23 years to date. That bypassed his long-term teammate Colin Nixon’s tenure of 17 years, 6 months and 20 days.
