East Belfast, in the past a place of industry and from where some music and sporting greats hail,  played a key part in promoting the city on the world stage.

The terraced streets of east Belfast were also home to a close-knit working-class community and the less familiar story of Glentoran Football Club and its battle against the odds to be crowned Europe’s first champions.

Coleraine 3-2 Glentoran

Sat, 23/04/2022 - 19:21

Glentoran went into this game looking to improve on their disappointing post-split results. They were facing a Coleraine side who hadn't won at home in the Danske Bank Premiership since mid February and had recorded just one win in their previous 10 games (5-2 away at relegated Warrenpoint Town). The Bannsiders were also without their first choice goalkeeper for this encounter, Gareth Deane having picked up an injury in the pre-match warm up with Martin Gallagher coming in to replace him.

Club Statement

Fri, 22/04/2022 - 21:37

The club has been made aware of the decision of the arbiter on Glentoran's expulsion from this season's Samuel Gelston's Whiskey Irish Cup.

The arbiter will present the reasons for her ruling early next week.

The club will issue further comment once it has had the opportunity to read these findings.

Glentoran Women 4-0 Lisburn Ladies

Wed, 20/04/2022 - 20:45

Champions Glentoran got the defence of their Danske Bank Women’s Premiership off to a winning start with a four-goal win over newly-promoted Lisburn at Ashfield.

Two goals in the opening ten minutes from Northern Ireland internationals Joely Andrews and Nadene Caldwell ensured Billy Clarke’s side were always going to be in control of the game.

Caldwell was the initial creator to set-up Andrews before she netted a fine solo goal.

Glentoran 0-0 Larne

Tue, 19/04/2022 - 22:49

The Glens and Larne played out a scoreless draw at the Bet McLean Oval this evening in the Danske Bank Premiership. It was a largely uneventful contest with decent chances far and few between. There was one controversial moment though just before halftime when John Herron struck Bobby Burns. The incident happened close to the linesman and 4th official but bizarrely only a yellow card was produced.
