Transfer News: Mitch leaves Glentoran

Thu, 27/01/2022 - 20:14

Andrew Mitchell has ended a two-year spell at the Bet McLean Oval by joining Coleraine, initially on loan with a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Mitch joined the club from Glenavon in January 2020 in a double deal with Caolan Marron. Mitch made a total 35 appearances for the club, including both this season’s Europa Conference ties with The New Saints.

Mick McDermott said of Mitch: “We wish Andrew all the very best at his new Club. Andrew was one of our first signings at the beginning of our project and he has been a top professional since that time.

The unfortunate reality is that he was not afforded the playing time his ability deserves, due to the strong performances of those in possession of the striker shirts at the club. Understandably, his desire is to play, and we wish him every success. He is at all times an honest player and a great person.”

Mitch said to www.glentoran.com this afternoon: “I’ve loved my time at the Oval, playing with some great players here and getting the chance to play in the Europa Conference this season. I’ve met some wonderful people at this club, and I’d like to thank Mick and Windy for giving me the opportunity to play for am great club of the stature of Glentoran.

The only reason I’m leaving is because at this stage of my career I really need to be playing a lot more and scoring goals. The way Jay and others have been playing that was going to be very difficult at Glentoran, so this is a terrific opportunity for me at a real progressive, family club at Coleraine under a manager who’s done very well for them over the past few years.

I’d like to wish Glentoran all the best for the rest of the season and I look forward to meeting up with my friends here when I’m back at the Oval as a Coleraine player.”

Very best wishes to Andrew.
