Foyle Cup 2013

Mon, 29/07/2013 - 15:26

Glentoran were this week represented in the Foyle Cup with two teams at mini-soccer level (Under 10), the U12s, the U13s and the U16s.

Glentoran performed admirably winning our first 13 games in the competition across all the teams. The mini-soccer were excellent and secured top 10 finishes whilst in the main competition, the U13s were heartbreakingly defeated by Sheffield United on penalties in the semi final and the U16s lost in the Final at the Brandywell 2-1 to Derry Colts.

Glentoran continued their build up to the new campaign with a good work out against Liverpool U21 team at the Oval. With several players unavailable, manager Eddie Patterson moved Mark Clarke into the centre of defence to partner Jay Magee. Recent signings Ryan O’Neill, Niall Henderson and Johnny Addis all started the game with trialist, Ashley Cain also in the line up.

Bar Info For This Week

Tue, 23/07/2013 - 19:48

Next up in our Pre-Season schedule is a Liverpool XI to face a Glentoran team who faired pretty well against a good Kilmarknock side at the weekend in Elliott Morris Testimonial game.

The Liverpool squad includes 6 players who have already graced the Liverpool first team and features our very own under 21 international Ryan McLaughlin. This will be a very tough fixture in our preparations for the upcoming season.

Spectators attending this weeks game at The Oval should be in for some excellent entertainment. Liverpool have just announced their travelling party and this seasons squad is equal if not better than the one that played at Ravenhill last season. Just look at the number of players who appeared there who have progressed to the Liverpool Squad now on tour in Indonesia and Australia.

The club would like to pass on our deepest condolences to friend and colleague Iain Dickson on the passing of his father on Friday past.

Iain, pictured above, is a long serving coach at the academy and has helped to bring us many great young players.

Iain's dad Alexander had battled with Alzheimer's disease, and Iain himself has worked tirelessly to help raise awareness and funding for the charity, Alzheimer's Society NI.

Glens edged out by Killie

Glentoran's Elliott Morris literally had his day in the sun for his testimonial this afternoon against Kilmarnock. As the temperatures soared, a good crowd turned out to cheer on Elliott on his big day. Kilmarnock brought over 50 fans across the Irish Sea too and were in full voice throughout.
