Under 20s Unbeaten Run Ends

Thu, 14/09/2017 - 22:51

Glentoran 20s suffered their first defeat of the season last night at The Oval as they went down 4-2 to rivals Linfield in their NIFL Premiership Development League game.

The Glens got off to the worst possible start going a goal down inside two minutes - Linfield punishing a lapse of concentration.

Linfield doubled their lead from a corner kick soon after to further compound a miserable start to the game from Glentoran.

The Glens came into the game and enjoyed a sustained period of possession without creating an opening and were punished further when an uncharacteristic mistake at the back led to Linfield's third.

On the stroke of half time the Glens gave themselves a lifeline when Kym Nelson cut in from the Linfield and finished well into the bottom corner, latching on to a through ball from Gordon.

The Glens came out in the second half much more composed and controlled long periods of the second half but again failed to really trouble the Blues keeper bar a cracking long range effort from Nelson andfailing to get on the end of some good deliveries into the box and Glentoran were further punished by a ruthless Blues forward line when their left winger scored the goal of the game with a curling effort into the top corner.

Moments later James McCarthy powered in a header for 4-2 but it was too little too late for the Glens as the game fizzled out to a 4-2 defeat.
