Annie Timoney says Glentoran must continue to match the standards they have set themselves as attention turns back to the All-Island Cup this weekend.
The Glens welcome Waterford Women to the Blanchflower Stadium on Sunday evening (Kick-off 5pm) looking to maintain their perfect start to the 2025 campaign.
Kim Turner’s side have opened the season with five consecutive victories, booking their place in the BoyleSports Women’s Cup Final while also making strong starts in both the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership and the All-Island Cup.
Timoney says there is a determination within the squad to continue building momentum, but insists nobody at the club is getting carried away by the early-season form.
“When you start a new season you always want to get off to a good start and thankfully we’ve managed to do that,” said Timoney.
“We finished last season strongly as well and the aim was always to carry that momentum into this year.
“Friday night’s win over Lisburn Rangers was our fifth in a row and I think with every game we’ve continued to improve and move closer towards the levels we expect from ourselves.
“But at the same time we know it’s only a start. Football can change very quickly and the last thing we want to do is become complacent.
“Over the last few seasons there has been very little margin for error and that’s something we understand as a group. There’s pressure that comes with that, but it’s a pressure we enjoy because it pushes standards every day.”
Waterford travel to Belfast still searching for their first points of this season’s All-Island Cup campaign following defeat to Shelbourne on the opening weekend.
Despite the visitors sitting near the foot of the League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division table, Timoney says Glentoran are fully aware of the threat Waterford will pose.
“You can never look too much into form because things can change very quickly in football,” she said.
“They’ll come here believing they can get a result and it’s important we approach the game with the right mentality.
“All we can do is focus on ourselves, prepare properly and make sure we perform to the levels we know we’re capable of.
“We’ve done that well in the opening games of the season and now the challenge is to keep that consistency going.
“This is a competition we want to do well in and Sunday gives us another opportunity to put ourselves in a strong position heading into the next stage.”
