Tiarnan McNicholl

Tue, 20/06/2017 - 20:10

Glentoran is delighted to announce the signing of Tiarnan McNicholl from Cliftonville on a 2 year contract. Tiarnan has been at Cliftonville for his whole career so far. He had a very successful loan spell with Carrick Rangers last season where he scored a great solo goal to win the League Cup Semi Final against Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

Manager Gary Haveron said today: “Tiarnan is a big strong athletic player. He has come up through the Cliftonville youth system and he really came to my attention while out on loan in the Premiership last year. Dan Kelly played alongside him during his loan spell last season and couldn't speak highly enough of the lad and his attitude.

I've said it a lot recently, but I only want to work with lads with the right attitude - an attitude where they want to work hard and earn what they get. With Tiarnan we got have exactly that. He wants the opportunity to prove himself and I’m sure he’ll take that opportunity with us.

When Tiarnan decided to leave Cliftonville we moved quickly as I know there’s been a lot of interest in him.  His attitude when we met was outstanding. He came with the intention not to negotiate but to sign for Glentoran. That was really refreshing and confirmed what I already knew, that he was a lad I was very keen to work with and a lad I know I can trust to look after himself and do more away from the club as well as when he's with us.

Tiarnan can play in either wide position as well as up top as a central striker and I'm delighted he's committed his future to us. At 22 he fits in well with the young and energetic side we are looking to put together and with premier league experience already he's a very good addition to the playing squad.”

Tiarnan’s comments on signing were: “Firstly it’s great to be signing for one of Belfast's big two. Glentoran have done great business signing good players so far this summer and I’m happy to be at a club that intends to challenge for the league and domestic cups. My time at Cliftonville gave me experience playing with some of the leagues best players and I learned a lot from them. Last year, I had a good spell of first team Premiership football at Carrick Rangers where I relished first team football and helping Carrick reach the League Cup Final. I know I can play a part in getting the Glens up the table and into cup finals”.

The club is sure everyone will make Tiarnan very welcome at his new club.
