Super Seconds into Steel semi

Wed, 07/11/2012 - 23:52

Glentoran Seconds will face Ballyclare Comrades in the semi-final of the Steel & Sons Cup at Seaview on Friday 30th November after a 3-nil victory over Lisburn Rangers at Wilgar Park last Saturday.

The Seconds kicked off their Steel & Sons Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Ballymena Utd Reserves in Round 2 and followed that up with an emphatic 5-nil win over Sirocco Works. In Round 4 they recorded a 2-nil win over Wellington Rec before coming up against Paul Kirk's Lisburn Rangers in the quarter-final.

With Aaron Hogg pulling of an excellent save early on, Spike Hill's team went in front when Colin Nixon slammed the ball home from close range following a free-kick. Stephen Gordon made it 2-0 but shortly afterwards Hogg was again called on to make another fine stop. Daniel Burns hit the bar and Carl McCombe also went close as the Seconds went in 2 up at the interval. Substitute, Dixon Chisunga set up Stephen Gordon for his second of the game in the second half as the wee Glens cruised into the semis.

Glentoran Seconds Hogg, Thompson, Birney, Nixon, McCullough, Bradley, Mcllveen, McKinney, Burns, Gordon & McCombe. Subs. Chisunga, Nelson & Stewart.
