A very special edition of the Glentoran Gazette will be on sale at Tuesday night’s game against Premiership leaders Coleraine as the Club marks the 80th anniversary of Northern Ireland’s leading matchday programme.
The centre pages reproduce the very first edition of the Gazette, published on 14th September 1946 and sold for one penny at Glentoran’s game against Linfield, alongside the final edition of its predecessor, the Glentoran Newsreel.
Continuing the anniversary theme, the 1923 Committee makes the case for the enduring place of the printed matchday programme in modern football, while Committee Chairman and Acting Gazette Editor Jimmy Carter pays tribute to the dedicated team behind a publication that has been named the NIFPCC Programme of the Year for an incredible 25 consecutive years.
Among the regular contributors, Philip Stevenson’s Sketch In Time features John Devine, while Henry Muldrew contrasts the true football supporter with the event attender.
Long-serving Club photographer Tommy Sewell and Pacemaker Press provide the latest match action from the games against Larne and Bangor.
There is also an in-depth guide to Tuesday night’s opponents Coleraine, the thoughts of Declan Devine, the latest news from Around The Oval and all the essential facts and statistics.
With Pat Hoban selected by designer Beth Stafford as the anniversary edition’s cover star, the latest Glentoran Gazette – by the fans, for the fans – is available inside the BetMcLean Oval for just £4.
