Signing News: Back to the Oval for Ollie

Fri, 01/07/2022 - 01:31

Current Northern Ireland Under-21 goalkeeper Ollie Webber has re-joined the club after six years in English football.

Ollie (22) is a successful graduate of the Glentoran Academy, having been with the club from the ages of 12 to 16 years before leaving for Crystal Palace. He spent five years with Palace and was a regular starter in the Premiership club’s Under 23 side, before joining Portsmouth in the 2021-2022 season.

Ollie said of his return home: “"I am excited to be back at Glentoran. I obviously came through here when I was about 12 or 13 until I was 16 and then over to England to play. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to be back, so I am excited to get going. My experience with the Glentoran Academy was really good. Our age group was really good. We won the league two or three years in a row, so we were always winning trophies and it was an exciting time.

I’m delighted to be back here to hopefully get games and push the club to where it should be, top of the league. "I can't wait to work with Elliott. He has obviously had a hell of a career and he is a legend here. I look forward to working with him every day and just improving. I am coming here to push Aaron as much as I can and get as many games as I can, and obviously win as many trophies as I can and get a move back over to England again."

Paul Millar said of Ollie’s signing: “This is another great one to get over the line. Ollie has had some fantastic experiences during his six years in English football and has a lot of ability and potential. He’s made it clear he expects to challenge strongly for the first team shirt and that sort of competition and character is exactly what we’re trying to build here with the signings we’ve made this summer. We’re delighted to have Ollie on board.”

Welcome Home Ollie!
