Glentoran exited the Clearer Water Irish Cup at the quarter-final stage as Larne triumphed on penalties at the BetMcLean Oval.
Cammy Palmer had given the hosts the lead in first half stoppage time before Andy Ryan levelled matters midway through the second half.
Two minutes before the end the Glens suffered a blow as MJ Kamson-Kamar picked up a second yellow leaving them a man down for the extra 30 minutes.
No further goals were to come so it was on to penalties but Rohan Ferguson saved from Pat Hoban, Jordan Jenkins and Palmer to seal Larne’s place in the semi-finals.
Declan Devine made three changes to the side which saw off Carrick Rangers on Tuesday night with Jordan Stewart, Danny Amos and Jack Malone all coming in for Jarlath O’Rourke, James Singleton and Liam Burt.
The hosts made a bright start to the game enjoying the bulk of possession in the opening 15 minutes without creating a clear-cut opening.
It was Andrew Mills who was called into action first as he got down well at the near post to deny Ryan on the quarter hour.
Danny Amos then made a vital intervention after a swift breakaway by Larne with the defender nicking the ball off Ronan Doherty on the edge of the box after Ryan had cut the ball back.
Amos then tried his luck at the other end with a volley which flew narrowly wide of the upright.
Ryan Cooney also narrowly missed the target with an audacious long range effort as we moved past the half hour mark.
Just when it looked like we would be heading into the break all square, up popped Palmer to fire the Glens in front after Hoban’s clever flick had teed up the midfielder in the penalty area.
Glentoran were inches away from a second four minutes into the second half as Cooney whistled a shot narrowly wide of the goal just after the hosts had a strong shout for a penalty turned down.
Larne though were finding their feet and Sean Graham was denied twice in quick succession by some good defending from the home side on 64 minutes.
With 14 minutes to go the visitors did get themselves back on level terms as Ryan tapped home from Conor McKendry’s pass across the face of goal.
The Glens were inches away from retaking the lead on 79 minutes as that man Palmer let fly again but his shot struck the inside of the post before sailing across the face of the goal to safety.
There was to be late drama once again as with just two minutes to go Kamson-Kamara was sent off after picking up a second yellow to leave the home side facing extra-time a man down.
The first period of extra-time was a tense affair with neither side carving out a real goal-scoring opportunity.
Palmer let fly with another effort from distance at the start of the second period but it flew well wide of the target.
Graham spurned a great opportunity to win it for Larne in the 118th minute as Dan Bent slipped him in, but the wideman wildly blazed his effort past the goal.
No goals were to come though so it was on to penalties but Rohan Ferguson saved from Hoban, Jenkins and Palmer to send Larne into the last four as Cosgrove, Graham and Gallagher all converted.
