Glentoran Seconds advanced in the Steel & Sons Cup following a 3-2 victory over Drumaness Mills at Meadowvale.

The Glens built on their dramatic 5-4 first-round win over East Belfast, with goals from Finlay Grummitt, Cal Weatherup and Ciaran Rogers-Duffy securing their place in the next round.

Grummitt opened the scoring when he rose to meet an excellent corner and directed a powerful header beyond the Drumaness goalkeeper.

The hosts responded with a well-taken effort from outside the penalty area that found the far corner to level the contest.

Glentoran restored their advantage following excellent individual play from Weatherup, who was brought down inside the area before stepping forward to dispatch the resulting penalty into the bottom corner.

Jack Faloona came close to adding a third shortly after the restart when his powerful 25-yard effort was turned around the post by the Drumaness goalkeeper.

The home side were then awarded a penalty of their own. Jack Watt saved the initial effort, but Drumaness reacted first to score from the rebound and make it 2-2.

Glentoran found the decisive goal when Rogers-Duffy met Jake Drennan’s long throw with an excellent header to restore the visitors’ lead.

Weatherup, Faloona and Rogers-Duffy were all involved after featuring for the first team in Tuesday night’s 3-1 County Antrim Senior Shield victory over Linfield at The BetMcLean Oval.

Weatherup scored Glentoran’s third goal against Linfield, while Rogers-Duffy completed the full match before producing the decisive contribution at Meadowvale four days later.

His header proved the difference as the Seconds followed their nine-goal thriller against East Belfast with another cup victory.
