Glentoran Seconds secured a 1-0 win over Bangor Reserves at Clandeboye Park in the NIFL Premiership Development League on Wednesday evening.
Ciaran Rogers-Duffy scored the only goal as James Dickson’s side claimed all three points, with Jarlath O’Rourke playing 45 minutes on his return from foot surgery.
The winner came after good work from Lekan Sule earned a corner. Reece Bell delivered into the box and Rogers-Duffy fired into the top of the net to put the Glens ahead.
Glentoran went close to extending their lead when O’Rourke’s delivery found Finlay Grummitt, whose powerful header towards the top corner was kept out by an excellent save.
Jack Faloona then played in Cal Weatherup, but his effort was directed straight at the goalkeeper.
Weatherup threatened again following a strong run and delivery from Bell, sending his finish narrowly wide at the far post.
Bangor had an opportunity to draw level, but Jack Watt made an important one-on-one save to preserve the Glens’ advantage.
Academy player Cohen Ennis came on in the second half to make his U20s debut. The youngster, part of the club’s 2011 Academy squad, produced a composed performance to help Glentoran see out the victory.
