Glentoran Seconds were held to a 2-2 draw by Dungannon Swifts II in the NIFL U20 Premiership Development League at Ashfield Boys’ High School.

The Glens recovered from falling behind to lead at half-time through superb strikes from Jack Faloona and Jake Drennan, but the visitors equalised after the restart to earn a share of the points.

Glentoran began brightly and controlled much of the opening 15 minutes before conceding a disappointing goal against the run of play.

The setback disrupted the home side’s rhythm for a spell, but a youthful Glentoran team responded impressively during the closing 15 minutes of the first half.

Faloona brought the Glens level at the end of a well-worked move. The ball was pulled back towards the edge of the penalty area, where he produced a composed finish into the top corner.

Drennan then completed the turnaround with another excellent strike. The defender powered forward before drilling a low effort into the bottom corner from around 20 yards, leaving the Dungannon goalkeeper with no chance.

Glentoran carried that momentum into the second half and again made an encouraging start, but another avoidable goal allowed the visitors to draw level.

The Glens pushed for a winner, but neither side could find the decisive fifth goal as the points were shared.

The result leaves Glentoran seventh in the table with eight points from six games, having recorded two wins, two draws and two defeats. Larne Olympic lead the standings with 19 points from seven fixtures.

The Seconds return to league action against Ballymena United Reserves at Ashfield Boys’ High School on Monday 21 September.
