Seconds defeat Swifts

Tue, 17/09/2013 - 17:47

Glentoran Seconds netted a late winner against Linfield Swifts tonight at the Oval to grab a 3-2 victory in the NIFL Reserve League.

The Blues took an early lead in the game but when Jordan Hughes was felled in the area Mark Miskimmin had the chance to level things up. He made no mistake, sending Ross Glendinning the wrong way. 1-all at the break, the Seconds then went in front with a stunning 25-yard free kick from Jordan Hughes. With time running out a 20-yard strike from James Knowles hit the crossbar and bounced down before spinning out. Belatedly, the referee's assistant, who was about 12 yards from the goal line, signalled that the ball had indeed crossed the line and we were level again at 2-all. In stoppage time though Glentoran Seconds had the opportunity to win the game with a second spot kick. Mark Hillen took the responsibility this time and buried his effort in the bottom corner.
