Police request that Glentoran fans travelling by car and coach to the Clearer Water Irish Cup semi-final match with Linfield at the Bet McLean Oval Stadium, on Friday 29th March 24 with 1945 hrs KO, leave sufficient travel time to arrive at the match.
The club was delighted to welcome to the Oval and onto the pitch on Saturday, seven members of the Glentoran squad that reached the quarter final of the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1973-74 season.
These legends were hosted by Philip Stevenson and the Glentoran Supporters’ Committee (1923) to mark the 50th anniversary of the two quarter final ties with Borussia Monchengladbach in March 1974. The players watched the game from the Directors Box and were hosted by the 1923 members at half time.
A disappointing start to the season for Glentoran Women in this opening game in the Avenir Sports All Island Cup at Blanchflower Stadium this afternoon. But given that the team has played one pre-season friendly so far and that the next competitive match is not for another month, the result should not have much bearing on the 2024 season.
A three-goal burst in six second half minutes made this game – last one before the Sports Direct Premiership split - safe for Glentoran and sent the team into next week’s Irish Cup semifinal on a high after a traumatic few weeks.
Congratulations to Jonny Russell who has been called up for the Northern Ireland Under 20 squad for the UEFA U21 Euro 2025 qualifier against Serbia next Tuesday (26 March) in Leskovac. This is a well-deserved honour for Jonny after a great first season as a first team squad member with 29 first team appearances so far in the season.
Beth Stafford’s graphic of interim boss Declan Devine fronts Saturday’s 40 page Glentoran Gazette in which 1923 Committee chairman, Jimmy Carter, tells how he started the ball rolling to bring supporters’ groups together while we also document the events since our last home game. Declan, meanwhile, says it is an honour to manage the Glens, promises to work tirelessly in his time here and recalls his time as a player at the Oval.
Saturday 23rd March

On Saturday we play game number 33 and the last game before this season’s split in the Sports Direct Premiership. We face 11th placed Ballymena United at the Bet McLean Oval.
Treble winners Glentoran Women begin the 2024 season this Sunday (24th March) with a home tie with Athlone Town in the first game in this season’s All Island Cup.
The close season has been a busy one for many of our players at international level in the various Northern Ireland age groups but the coaching team have also been busy on the recruitment front.
