Robbie is Glens Player of the Year ... Again

Mon, 26/10/2020 - 00:34

Robbie McDaid has been voted Glentoran Player of the Year by the club’s supporters for the second consecutive year.

Castlereagh Glentoran Supporters Club hosted the vote for the 63rd consecutive year. It was held at Saturday’s home game and Cup Final hero Robbie came out on top with an incredible 67% of the vote. He will be presented with his award by Castlereagh GSC officials on the pitch before our next home game, Covid restrictions permitting.

Robbie said on being told of his award: “I’m delighted to win the award for the second year in a row and would like to thank everyone that voted for me as their player of the season. It’s possibly a bit sweeter this year as it coincides with our Irish cup win and tops off a great season for the club and me on a personal level. Hopefully, this season we can carry on that trophy path and give the fans some well-deserved happiness amongst all the negativity in today’s world. Who knows when we will all see each other on the terraces again, but until then stay safe and thank you once again.”

Mick McDermott: ““BIG goals at BIG moments” - that’s sums up Robbie. That is the reason he has got the recognition of the fans with this award and the reason, we as a club, have rewarded him with a new contract.

Robbie had a great season, and he has much more to give Glentoran.  He has set major targets for himself this season and he will hold himself accountable. That is the mark of a top striker. Robbie is an integral member of our fantastic squad and we look forward to him battling hard for the red, green & black this season.

Congratulations Robbie!”

Paddy McClean was runner-up with Hrvoje Plum third and skipper Marcus Kane in fourth place.

The Chairman and Board of Directors would like to thank the officers and members of the Castlereagh GSC for again hosting this important and highly prestigious award.
