Obituary: Noel Hall

Thu, 18/10/2018 - 16:16

It is with sadness that we have to announce the passing of another of our stalwart supporters, Mr Noel Hall.

Noel was a lifelong Glenman and former President of the Castlereagh Glentoran Supporters' club and he and his elder brother Raymond were permanent fixtures following the Glens far and wide. The Hall brothers love of Glentoran meant their families were convinced the match wouldn't kick off until they'd taken their seats.  Something akin to Statler and Waldorf in their latter years, Noel and Raymond cut quite a dash amidst the denim clad fans of the 70s making their way down Mersey Street in jackets and Glentoran ties and a fine sheepskin coat as their Saturday rig.

Noel was an excitable fan to sit beside and many of us can vouch for an elbow to the ribs or a clatter on the ankle as he 'kicked every ball' to help the red, green and black. In his late 70s he made that long journey to Turner's Cross for the Setanta final and raised the bus roof with Glentoran songs and loud snoring on the way back. Despite recent failing health Noel always wanted an update on the Glens scores and the family will all miss his smile, laughter and affection.

Gone to the reserved seats in the sky.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS: Friday 19th October 1230 at Saintfield Road Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Roselawn Crematorium at 1400.
