GLENTORAN striker Curtis Allen has been named BetMcLean Player of the Month by the Northern Ireland Football Writers Association.
Curtis had an outstanding February, scoring league goals against Ballinamallard United, Ards, Cliftonville and Warrenpoint Town (two), not to mention bagging a four-goal-haul against Ballyclare Comrades in the Irish Cup.
Reflecting on his nine-goal month, Curtis said, "It was a strange month. Personally, it was fantastic for me to score nine goals and to play well on a few occasions. However, the manager lost his job during the month.
Obviously, I was very disappointed for Gary Haveron but we're looking to the future now and there's plenty to play for. We are determined to secure a place in the top six, while we also have an Irish Cup quarter-final against Coleraine on Tuesday night to look forward to."
Paul McLean of sponsor BetMcLean (also our club sponsor here at Glentoran) said, "Curtis has been in tremendous form in recent weeks and is a worthy winner of this award."
NIFWA Chairman Keith Bailie said, "Curtis has been one of the best strikers in the local game for a decade now. He is one of the most deadly finishers in the Irish League and when he's on form, he's unstoppable. Nine goals in a month is a massive achievement."
Hopefully it’s an omen that Curtis last one this provincewide award in March 2015 his goals that month included the winner in the Irish Cup semi final over Crusaders on our way to winning the trophy!
