Naomi McLaughlin has earned her first Northern Ireland senior call-up, joining Glentoran Women teammates Aimee Kerr and Mia Moore in the squad for October’s FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off double-header against Portugal.

McLaughlin joined the Glens from Aberdeen during the summer, having previously played for Cliftonville Ladies and Sion Swifts Ladies.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has represented Northern Ireland at youth level and now steps into the senior squad for the first time as Michael McArdle’s side prepare for the two-legged tie.

Kerr and Moore retain their places in the panel, ensuring three Glentoran players will be involved as Northern Ireland pursue a place at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Northern Ireland will host Portugal at Inver Park on Friday 9 October, with kick-off at 7pm. The return leg takes place in Portimão on Tuesday 13 October, kicking off at 7.15pm UK time.

Victory over Portugal would secure a second-round play-off against either Croatia or Iceland.
