McClure and Beatty on target for Glentoran Seconds

Glentoran Seconds continued their impressive run of form with a hard-fought 2–1 victory away to Coleraine Reserves on Monday evening.

The win strengthens the Glens’ position at the top of the NIFL Premiership Development League table, with two games in hand over nearest rivals Linfield.

There were welcome returns to the starting line-up for first-team squad members Charlie Lindsay and James Douglas, with Ciaran Rogers-Duffy once again captaining the side.

Jude Johnson and Cal Weatherup, both of whom have impressed this season, led the line, while Milo Beimers remained unavailable as he continued international duty with Canada at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

Both teams created chances during a competitive first half. Glentoran went in front on 34 minutes when James McClure found the bottom corner following a well-worked move.

Despite further opportunities, the Glens were pegged back before the interval as Coleraine levelled on 39 minutes with both teams going into the break all square.

The second half saw both teams create a number of chances as the game remained evenly contested.

Neither side was able to find a breakthrough until Daniel Beatty restored Glentoran’s lead on 75 minutes, finishing low across the goalkeeper with what proved to be the winning goal.

Glentoran managed the remainder of the match well to secure three points and maintain their position at the top of the NIFL Premiership Development League.
