Warrenpoint Town v Glentoran

Saturday 14 April 2018, 3pm kick off

This weekend we stay in County Down with our second visit of the season to Milltown to play Warrenpoint Town.

Our last meeting at the end of February was a comfortable home 5-0 win in what turned out to be Matthew Tipton’s last game in charge of Point. Our goals that night were a Robbie McDaid hat trick and a double from Curtis Allen in one of our best performances of the season.

Prior to February we had a 2-0 home win in September through goals from Curtis Allen and Robbie McDaid and a 2-3 victory at Milltown in late November when goals from Daniel Kelly (2) and Tiarnan McNicholl saw us through in a tense match after we lost an early two goal lead.

Ronnie McFall said after training on Thursday evening: “The first half of last Saturday’s match in Bangor was as bad as I’ve seen in a long time with neither team able to put two passes together. But we sorted it out at half time and once we managed to start getting the ball down we looked a lot more comfortable. Once Dylan scored the first penalty I was always confident we’d get the points and as it turned out we did it pretty comfortably.

I saw Warrenpoint against Dungannon a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with how Stephen McDonnell had them playing. They keep the ball on the deck, keep possession well and were good winners that day. But our priority is to get the points we need to secure our play off place as quickly as possible then make sure the team is in good form going into the first match. That’s how we’ll approach Saturday.

Marcus Kane trained on Thursday night which was a bonus after the nasty tackle he took at Bangor. Hopefully he’ll feel no reaction and be available for Warrenpoint. James Knowles still isn’t quite ready after the knee injury he got in my first match.  Calum Birney is unavailable for this one due to unavoidable work commitments but Willie Garrett is back after his suspension so he’s likely to come straight back in. John McGuigan and Stevie Gordon are also available after suspension.”
