Tuesday 3 September
Kick Off 7.45
We start our quest for this season’s County Antrim Shield with a visit down the Holywood Road to face our local neighbours at H&W Welders.
The Welders have made a great start to the season and after five games sit top of the Playr Fit Championship with ten points from five games. They top the table on goal difference from Limavady United, a situation boosted by a 7-2 away win over Ballyclare Comrades on Saturday.
Welders have demonstrated a fair bit of firepower so far with ex-Crusaders striker Brandon Doyle scoring a hat trick at Ballyclare and former Derry City, Ballymena United and Cliftonville centre forward David Parkhouse scoring all four in a 4-0 home win over Ballinamallard United a couple of weeks previously.
Former Glens young full backs James McCarthy and Jamie Glover are both regular members of what is a youthful squad under former Institute Manager Paul Kee.
The Glens management and players will be keen to go one better than last year’s status as losing finalists. Declan Devine will show the Welders a lot of deserved respect for their current excellent form and is also likely to use this Shield match to give a starting opportunity for one or two squad members who have had to wait for their chance so far and maybe one or two of our deadline week new signings.
