Match Preview - Glentoran v Ards

Thu, 25/10/2018 - 23:33

Saturday 27th October 2018

Kick Off 3pm

On Saturday we look to bounce back from what’s been a difficult October so far with the visit of Ards.

Ards currently sit tenth in the table but come to the Oval on the back of a surprise win over Linfield in Bangor. At our last meeting we had a fairly comfortable 2-0 away win with goals from John McGuigan and Curtis Allen.

Ronnie McFall: “We went into the Linfield match forced to make a number of changes due to suspension and injury then losing Elliott Morris to injury after fifteen minutes. But all the lads who came in did very well after going a goal behind very early on to an unlucky penalty. I felt we were the better side for most of the match and dominated for long periods but some legs started to go in extra time. That’s no big surprise giving what some of them had to go through on the Saturday and also the fact that some of the lads haven’t had an awful lot of game time so far. But we kept our shape really well and the lads who came in showed me that although we still need strengthening in some areas, there’s a lot of ability and character in our squad, both those who’ve been starting regularly and also the boys who came in against Linfield. We kept our shape really well and defended superbly and if we’d had a bit more penetration we could have won the match.

For Saturday John McGuigan and Willie Garrett are both available so come back into contention though Calum Birney has two more of a three match suspension still to serve. Conor Pepper trained well tonight and it’s possible he’ll be fit to play. Elliott took a knee to his hip on Tuesday night and it’s badly bruised so he’ll have a fitness test before Saturday. If he doesn’t make it Dwayne Nelson will start.

Sam Byrne has been released from his loan and has returned to Dundalk. It's unfortunate but it just hasn't worked out here for Sam. He's been a good, honest lad and I'd like to thank him for his efforts and wish him all the very best for his future in the game. I've been told by the Chairman that Sam's wages will be fully available to us in the January window so we're already working on how we can further strengthen the squad."

This week's match sponsor is A1 Accounting, Dundonald. We thank them for their generous support of Glentoran

The Board of Directors at Glentoran Football Club would again request that all supporters travelling to the Oval by private car consider the local residents when deciding where and how to park. Local parking is freely available at the Arches Health Centre.
