Glentoran v Crusaders

Monday 2nd October, 7.45pm.

This Monday we play host to Crusaders for the first time this season. Depending on the outcome we can by-pass the Crues to move into fourth place. Anything other than a win and we will remain fifth in the table.

Manager Gary Haveron has no availability issues and said: “yet another test of how far we have progressed so far and will give an indication of how much more work we still have to do.  Crusaders over the past few years have been a benchmark for clubs wishing to progress - a club that has been built during Stephen’s reign. Not an over night success story but a steady progression year on year and there is a lot to admire about what they have done”

They are a team well know for their direct and physical style of play and our boys are going to have to deal with that. But like every other game we will look to build on our own strengths, do what we do well, play our style of football and if we put the work in then I go into every game confident that we have the players to hurt any team in this league.

I think we all left the Oval last week feeling an opportunity was missed to take the 3 points. John has reacted the way I expected him to this week in training. He’s put in his usual great shift and his attitude is first class so it won’t affect him. Everyone has trained well and everyone is fit and available. We had a slight concern over Moko but he's come through and will be available for Monday night. I think the fact Coleraine came to us in great form beating everyone in front of them – and the fact they got straight back to winning against Ballymena on Saturday - shows that we have come a long way as they are the ones celebrating a point at the end of the game and we were disappointed, despite being the only team to take points from them so far.

Congratulations to Elliott on winning the supporters’ vote for Player of the Month. He's been in great form when called upon but he’s worth so much more to us than that. He knows the demands of playing for Glentoran and isn't shy about letting the younger players know, which is great for me and shows that Elliott's commitment to his and our club is unwavering after 16 years.”

The Board of Directors at Glentoran Football Club would again request that all supporters travelling to the Oval by private car consider the local residents when deciding where and how to park.
